The seeds of the grass pea, cicerchia, or blue pea (Lathyrus sativus) are similar to those of the chickpea in their properties, flavor, and uses. The soaking time is only eight to twelve hours and the cooking time is not too long, about 20 minutes. They have a pleasant nutty taste.

They can be prepared in the same way as chickpeas and peas. They should not be cooked in soaking water and should not be eaten raw. They are not suitable for sprouting. Their germination time is about one week and they germinate irregularly.

Cooking time is between 15 and 20 minutes, even when cooked, the seeds retain their intense flavor, they need only a little salt.
