Sowing instructions
Growing Yucca gigantea from seed is not complicated. They should be soaked for around 24 hours before sowing. In warm locations, they germinate quickly; at 77 to 84 °F (25 to 28 °C), the first roots can appear after just five days.
The sowing depth can be one to two centimetres. To be able to observe germination better, I only put the seeds on the soil. A mixture of peat-free herb compost and bird sand.
As I hadn’t expected all the seeds to germinate, the growing jar I used was too small and I had to repot the seedlings. Which they tolerated well.
To keep fungus gnats away, I only filled the pot halfway with the mixture of humus substrate and bird sand and covered the germinating seeds with lava gravel.
The location for germination and during the first few days can be bright to partly sunny, with morning or evening sun. The larger the yucca seedlings grow, the more sun they can tolerate.
