Agave

The genus Agave belongs to the subfamily Agavaceae in the family Asparagaceae. These plants are native to North America and South America. Depending on the species, their flowering shoots can grow several meters high.

After flowering, the agaves die. Usually, however, side shoots appear before that.

Agaves are not related to the similar-looking aloes, but they are related to the hostas and palm lilies (Yucca).
