Peperomia inaequalifolia

Congona, congonita

Peperomia inaequalifolia is native to north-western South America and reaches a height of up to 40 centimetres. The leaves of the slightly succulent plant can be used as a culinary herb, its aroma is peppery-hot with a hint of umami.

Plant care tips

According to my observations, Peperomia inaequalifolia needs a little more light than other tropical peperomias, such as Peperomia caperata. I consider bright to partly sunny locations with morning and evening sun in summer and full sun in winter to be ideal.

The substrate should be well-drained; herbal soil loosened with bird sand or lava granules is suitable.

The soil should be allowed to moderately dry between watering and occasionally dry out. Peperomia inaequalifolia is only slightly succulent and grows in tropical and subtropical regions on trees (epiphytic) or rocks (lithophytic).
