Prickly Poppy, Long Pricklyhead Poppy, Pale Poppy
Papaver argemone is well adapted to survive in dry and warm regions. It appears more filigree than other Central European poppy species and only grows up to 30 centimetres high.
Prickly Poppy grows as an annual and shows its flowers from April to June. They open early in the morning and are already faded by late afternoon.
Papaver argemone can be found in sunny places, on embankments, banks, in meadows, on fields and roadsides. Its main distribution area is the Mediterranean, but its range extends as far as northern Europe.
