Spiral Cereus, Queen of the Night
Cereus jamacaru “Spiralis” can grow up to 4 meters high.
Cereus jamacaru “Spiralis” does best at locations that give it sun for at least 3 hours a day. It tolerates the hot afternoon sun of summer, but can also do well with a spot where it gets sun only in the morning or evening.
If he is going to spend the summer on the balcony or in the garden, then he must be slowly acclimated to the sun that is no longer filtered through a window.
Standard cactus soil is suitable, as well as mineral or semi-mineral mixtures with pumice gravel or lava gravel, clay granules, bird sand.
I use a mix that is made up of half peat-free vegetable soil and half mineral components (pumice gravel, bird sand and acadama).
Allow the substrate to nearly dry oder dry out before watering again. Waterlogging, that is, when the water stands for days in the saucer, the Spiral Cereus does not tolerate.
In winter, it should be watered sparingly and in small sips.
The first year after purchase or repotting Cereus jamacaru “Spiralis” does not need to be feeded. Thereafter, it can receive liquid fertilizer from spring to fall. Every 4th to 8th week. There is no harm in forgetting to fertilize occasionally.
To keep it in shape and to avoid leggy stems, it is better to overwinter Cereus jamacaru “Spiralis” in a cool to temperate place. It should not be kept at temperatures above 15 °C in winter.
If you can not give it a cool place, you should still water it only a little and keep the substrate mostly dry, so that it stops growing.
The Spiral Cereus can be grown from cuttings.
