Plantago indica is an annual herbaceous plant, can grow up to 50 centimeters high and flowers in Central Europe from June to September.

The seeds and seed husks of Plantago indica and other plantains can support intestinal activity. They are commercially available as black psyllium and are also said to have a positive effect on the microbiome (source).

Sowing instructions

Plantago indica seeds germinate quickly, with the first root tips appearing after just 20 hours at room temperature. They can, but do not need to be soaked before sowing.

Plantago indica germinating seeds

I used a mix of bird sand and peat-free herb soil as a substrate. To prevent the seeds from drying out, the seed pot was placed in a saucer filled with water for two days. It was not covered.

Plantago indica is a light germinator, the seeds are only placed on the soil but not covered with it.

The location for germination and cultivation should be sunny and bright.
