Phytolacca americana (american pokeweed) is a perennial and deciduous plant that can reach a height of up to three meters.
Sowing instructions
In order for the seeds of Phytolacca americana to germinate, they must be stratified, i.e. subjected to cold treatment. Stratification can be done in the vegetable compartment of the refrigerator.
The sowing depth is approximately one centimeter; the seeds do not need to be soaked before sowing.
Two days after seeding, I closed the jar with its lid and placed it in the fridge for eight weeks.
To prevent mold from forming during the stratification, the soil should only be slightly moist but not dripping wet. I used peat-free mix for vegetables.
After four to eight weeks, the seeds can be placed in a warm place again. At around 77 °F (25 °C), it only takes a good week for them to germinate.
