Phytolacca americana

American pokeweed, pokeweed, poke sallet, pokeberry

Phytolacca americana is a perennial plant. Depending on its location, it can reach a height of between one and three meters. The flowering period in Central Europe can last from July to September. All parts of the plant are poisonous when raw.

In some areas here in Europe, this species, which originates from North America, is considered invasive and can displace native species. In my region, in Rhineland-Palatinate, it is currently conquering urban areas. Until now, it has only been found in our forests.
