Siberian bugloss is native to the Caucasus (Georgia) and Turkey. It is also known as great forget-me-not, false forget-me-not, largeleaf brunnera or heartleaf. Several cultivars of this popular garden perennial are available, with white flowers or silvery leaves.
Brunnera macrophylla blooms from April to June and can grow to a height of 30 to 50 centimeters. It spreads by seed and short runners.
Siberian bugloss in the garden
The Siberian bugloss grows best in a semi-shady to shady spot with evenly moist soil. The soil should be sandy-loamy or rich in humus.
It does not do well in well-drained and sandy soil. It can only survive in full sun if it is watered regularly.
Brunnera macrophylla is hardy until -25 °C/-13 °F.
