The red mulberry (Morus rubra) is native to Canada and the USA. It can grow over ten meters high. Its fruits, the mulberries, are edible.
Growing the red mulberry tree from seeds
Spring is a good time for sowing. If the seeds are sown at the beginning of March, the young mulberry trees can be planted in the garden in May.
The seeds are just placed on the soil and lightly pressed down or covered with a very thin layer.
At temperatures around 77 °F (25 °C), the first cotyledons appeared after a week.
I used a peat-free herb mix as a substrate.
To prevent the seeds from drying out, the growing pot must be covered.
The location for growing should be bright to partly sunny. The older the mulberry trees get, the more sun they can tolerate.
