Lotus corniculatus belongs to the legume family (Fabaceae) and is commonly known as Bird’s-Foot Trefoil, Common Bird’s-Foot Trefoil or Birdsfoot Deervetch.
It grows perennially, flowers from early summer to early autumn and grows up to 30 centimetres high.
Bird’s-foot trefoil can cope with many habitats. It inhabits meadows, embankments, ditches, rubble piles, roadsides and roadsides.
It grows best in sunny locations with reasonably moist, slightly loamy to humusy soil. However, it also tolerates nutrient-poor and well-drained soil.
