Biophytum sensitivum

Little tree plant

Biophytum sensitivum is a non-branching annual plant that can grow up to 30 centimeters tall. Its habit is reminiscent of a palm tree. The leaves have a joint mechanism (pulvini) that allows them to be folded up or down. This is not unusual for species from the Oxalidaceae family.

Its natural range is in Southeast Asia, but as an invasive or neophytic species, Biophytum sensitivum is also found in other subtropical or tropical regions.

However, the growing season can be extended if the inflorescences are removed before the flowers open.
