Acer palmatum (Japanese maple) is a deciduous shrub or tree native to Japan and Korea. The wild type can reach over ten meters in height.
The Acer palmatum “Katsura” cultivar remains significantly smaller with heights of up to two meters and differs from the wild type in its yellow-green leaves. These are colored orange to red when they sprout in spring and at the end of the growing season in autumn.
