Acanthus hungaricus

Hungarian bear’s breeches

Acanthus hungaricus can bloom in Central Europe from June to August. The inflorescences reach heights of up to 1.5 meters. In mild regions, the plant retains its basal leaves in winter and only sheds them in spring, replacing them with new ones.

As can be clearly seen in the pictures, Acanthus hungaricus grows not only in height but also in width and is not really suitable for small gardens. The ground should be evenly to moderately moist and may also contain some sand or gravel. It tolerates sunny to slightly shady locations.
